2023 Anesthesiology Residency and Fellowship Matches

We are thrilled to have successfully matched eight incoming PGY-1 interns, two PGY-2/CA-1s and fellows for the pain and cardiac fellowships. They will all be starting in our department in July!

For our residency program, our department had over 1100 applications for eight PGY-1 positions and two PGY-2 positions, and approximately eighty of those applicants were interviewed. The fellowship programs also had wonderful interview seasons. Residency candidates had the option to interview in person as well as virtually and the fellowships continued conducting their interviews virtually again this year. We were able to recruit top candidates from across the country and are very excited to welcome all our new residents and fellows into the department.

The incoming residency class comes from diverse and accomplished backgrounds and will no doubt contribute in many different ways to our department. Our incoming class of PGY-1 residents includes Drs. Tate Crosby, John Dumas, Luke Hammock, Ruhi Randhawa, Jacob Risher, Renira Rugnath, Krishna Shah, and Nicholas Smith. Four of these PGY-1s are from University of Mississippi Medical School. The two incoming PGY-2/CA-1s are Dr. Trevan Anderson and Dr. Hardip Gill. Interestingly, four of our eight matched PGY-1s couples matched with their significant others into another UMMC department’s intern class!

Incoming fellows include Drs. Marco Castillo (cardiac anesthesia); and Drs. Oluwasegun Lijofi (off cycle/started this past January), Odai Abdalla, Hammad Baig, Casey Orzechowicz, and Devin Reed (pain management).

Congratulations to all, and welcome to the UMMC anesthesiology family!
